Yonaguni - Hammerheads & The Lost City

In February 2026, I visited Yonaguni Island, one of the most remote islands in Japan. This tiny island is one of the best places in the world to encounter large schools of hammerhead sharks as they migrate through these waters from January - March.

A number of different large pelagics pass the island including marlin, oceanic manta rays and even whale sharks. We were lucky enough to encounter an oceanic manta with the hammerheads on one of our dives!

As well as marine life, you also have opportunity to dive the 'lost city' a mysterious dive site which looks like an ancient city fallen to the sea.
